Enable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) on Oracle Cloud

Enabling multi factor authentication (MFA) on Oracle Cloud is crucial for enhancing the security posture of your cloud environment. In today’s digital landscape, security is paramount, especially when it comes to safeguarding our sensitive data and protecting online accounts. With the increasing threat of cyberattacks, it’s essential that we implement robust security measures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of valuable assets.

There are multiple end user related services provided by Oracle cloud platform including Oracle Analytics, Oracle Data Warehouse and oracle integration cloud services. With MFA, even if a hacker manages to obtain our password through phishing or other means, they would still need additional factors such as a mobile device or biometric data to gain access to the account. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access and helps prevent potential data breaches and identity theft.

Configure Multi Factor Authentication

Login to OCI console and open IDCS. You can directly open IDCS console if you know the URL

go to security and choose MFA a shown below

Assign MFA Policies to Users or Groups

Assign the MFA policies to the users or groups who will be using Oracle Integration Cloud. Navigate to “Users” or “Groups,” select the user or group, and assign the MFA policy. To enforce MFA for every user, enable additional factor in default sign on rules in sign-on policies under security menu in IDCS as shown below.

After enabling MFA, users will be prompted to complete the additional authentication steps when accessing Oracle Integration Cloud.

Conclusion

Enabling multi factor authentication on Oracle Cloud is a proactive step towards enhancing the security of your cloud environment. Follow the steps outlined above and adopt best practices for MFA usage. Doing so, you can significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access and bolster the overall security posture of your organization.
